The batik fabric that is the basis of this piece had swirling shapes that look
like the numbers "69." Since 1969 was the year I graduated from high
school,
got married, and had my first son, this number is very significant to
me.
Marina Art Quilts
I began quilting in 1976, as the nation was gripped in
bicentennial fever and
many people sought to revive traditional
American art traditions. Since 1995,
I have focused on painting
fabric and then designing quilts around the fabric.
Raw edge appliqué,
machine and hand stitching, and edges that are not always
straight
are typical of my art quilts. I look upon these as collage art,
utilizing textiles rather than paper.
