Artist Statement
With pumpkin farms, Christmas tree lots, and exotic flowers
in greenhouses on land, plus fishing boats at sea, Half Moon Bay
surrounds me with artistic inspiration.

I've been making quilts since the mid 1970s. After experimenting with
painting on fabric, my work changed dramatically, and now all my quilts
start with a painted image, whether abstract or figurative. Sometimes I
use my own photos as starting points, but make no preliminary drawings
or plans -- every piece "designs itself." This very free way of working is
exhilarating because I never know how the finished piece will turn out.
Most of my quilts are machine quilted, but a bit of hand stitching around
the edges retains a link to traditional quilting and Japanese sashiko
embroidery, another major influence on my work.
